About these letters

Samuel Andrews saved his letters. Copies of some letters came to my sister Linda Sanders and I through the good graces of Marian Andrews Edward about a dozen years ago and she is currently sending the remaining letters and she and her brother have given me permission to post them online for all Andrews researchers.

Transcriptions and some original images of letters written by Andrews and Carrick family members to one another are in this collection. Somehow they were saved, either by Samuel or just stored at his home, and passed down to us today. The images online are small but if you click on an image it should enlarge to a readable and printable size. Enjoy.

Who are the people in this photograph?

DeLight Birchell Andrews sent the photo and the names a few years ago and said that this reunion was held before 1898 at the home of John G. Andrews, brother of Samuel. John lived in Campbell township, Ionia County, Michigan at that time.

1860 08 12 James C. Andrews to Samuel Andrews

Seward tp  Aug the 12th 1860

Dear Mother and brothers  I
sit down to scribble a few lines
to let you know that we are
all well at present hoping
these few lines may find you
enjoying the same blessing…

I received your letter of the 24th
of June about a week ago it had
been every place else before it
came here  -- I seen John about a
week ago he told me he had got
a letter from David stating
that Mother had been verry
poorly but was on the mend
again which we was glad to hear
= the friends is all well as far
as i know == We have been
having some verry wet weather
now for a few weeks past

[page 2]

Corn looks first rate the best
prospect we ever had
wheat crops was light
I have eight acres of the
biggest hungarian grass you
ever saw it will make between
3 and 4 tons to the acre ----
we are still making calculations
on going to see you this fall
i think we will be there
about the middle of October
if nothing happens ==I don’t
hear any thing more about
Dan and Mary Jane going
in this fall I rather think
it has fell through==
I want you to write as soon
as you get this and let me
know whether there is plenty
of fruit there this fall or
not and all the rest of the
particulars   --turn over

[page 3]

Mr Baughman has not
been to see us yet but is to
be next Saturday as there
is to be a Political speech
at our school house that day
===I believe i have nothing
more to write except it would
be on politics and i have resolved
to write nothing on that this time.

I would like to have a letter
from David if he could lay the
tribune down long enough
to write me one
and Abby also she is begining
to think long for a letter too.

Write as soon as you get this
be sure now and write
no more at present

James C Andrews To
Samuel and all the rest
