About these letters

Samuel Andrews saved his letters. Copies of some letters came to my sister Linda Sanders and I through the good graces of Marian Andrews Edward about a dozen years ago and she is currently sending the remaining letters and she and her brother have given me permission to post them online for all Andrews researchers.

Transcriptions and some original images of letters written by Andrews and Carrick family members to one another are in this collection. Somehow they were saved, either by Samuel or just stored at his home, and passed down to us today. The images online are small but if you click on an image it should enlarge to a readable and printable size. Enjoy.

Who are the people in this photograph?

DeLight Birchell Andrews sent the photo and the names a few years ago and said that this reunion was held before 1898 at the home of John G. Andrews, brother of Samuel. John lived in Campbell township, Ionia County, Michigan at that time.

1861 03 24 James C. Andrews to Samuel Andrews

Kosciusko Co March the 24th 1861

Dear brother Samuel   i sit down to
write you a few lines informing you that
we are all well at present  Johns wife has
had a verry bad spell of the ereiyselas but
is about well again  Dans folks was all well
the last i heard of them

Now Samuel you wanted to know whether
i had any employment for you or not
i would just say that Robert Reed is
married and is a going to farm his place
himself but there is no dificulty in
getting work  John Paxton is working out
by the job and getting the cash for all his
work and says he could engage more work
than six men could do = I would like if
you would come out this summer and work and teach
our school next winter = we are building a
 new school house this summer

Now Samuel i would like first rate to
have you come out but i do not want
to coax you from  home contrary to Mothers
will and forever get the blame as i did
in the case of Mary Jane when i was
entirely innocent = so Samuel i want
you to use your best judgement and then
i will not be at fault= write as soon as
you get this and let me know what you are going
to do  so no more at present    James C Andrews to Samuel Andrews
