About these letters

Samuel Andrews saved his letters. Copies of some letters came to my sister Linda Sanders and I through the good graces of Marian Andrews Edward about a dozen years ago and she is currently sending the remaining letters and she and her brother have given me permission to post them online for all Andrews researchers.

Transcriptions and some original images of letters written by Andrews and Carrick family members to one another are in this collection. Somehow they were saved, either by Samuel or just stored at his home, and passed down to us today. The images online are small but if you click on an image it should enlarge to a readable and printable size. Enjoy.

Who are the people in this photograph?

DeLight Birchell Andrews sent the photo and the names a few years ago and said that this reunion was held before 1898 at the home of John G. Andrews, brother of Samuel. John lived in Campbell township, Ionia County, Michigan at that time.

1894 09 02 Martha Andrews to Samuel Andrews

Clarksville Mich Sept 2nd  [1894]

Dear Uncle.

No doubt you are wondering where we are so I will tell you we got home Wed evening.  had such a very pleasant trip.  left Harveys Monday morning stayed in Bristol Ind ( 5 miles south of the state line) Monday night.  stayed in Richland Tuesday night.  ate our dinner two miles south of Hastings Wednesday and took the balance of the day coming home.  I went yesterday morning and brought the balance of the family home, namely the dog and cow.
I got home to Harveys all right just as they were washing for dinner in the PM.  we went down to Joes.  Cecil was home and said Aunt Seiza Tucker had been up in her chair and out in the kitchen.  Sundy PM we went over to Tuckers and found Aunt Seiza looking so well and that day she had been up and ate her dinner at the table with the family.  She was in bed when we were there but they were both so cheered up.  I did so wish Minnie was there.  We staid but a little while and drove around past the place where I was born and got back to Harveys and got our traps packed up before they got home from that wonderful camp meeting.  Aunt Becca was not feeling at all well so was at home.
We have about decided to pack up our goods and leave them here in the house and go down to Seneca Mo and if it seems to fit us we will have George ship the goods to us and we will rent something to live in and see how the winter uses us and will know better by spring whether we want to stay.  What do you think of the plan?
I am baking and washing today- yesterday I caned 5 pts of tomatoes and 5 of plums and made 8 glasses of plum jell  McCallas have so many plums and no sale for them they are rotting on the ground.
Now I must write a line to Joe and Harvey.  Please let us hear from you soon.
goodby        Dott
